This was a piece that I constructed for my Illustration course in November 2019. For this assignment, we needed to create our own illustration of a page from a classic children's story. I chose "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" and went through six different ideas of which page to illustrate. The one I chose was the scene when the now-chubby Caterpillar eats a green leaf on a Sunday to get rid of his Saturday stomachache. For this illustration, I also included a church as a bonus, since most people go to church on Sundays.
IDEATION
Upon going through the six different ideas for my storyboard, I tried to focus on the main points of the story: (1) the caterpillar hatching, (2) the caterpillar on his eating binge from Monday through Saturday, (3) his Saturday night stomachache, (4, the chosen piece) the now-robust caterpillar eating a leaf, (5) hibernating in his cocoon, and (6) transforming into a butterfly.
